This is a magnificent example of an Indiana house. These houses are renowned in the area having been built by Spanish merchants who returned home as rich men after making their fortunes in overseas.

At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century many Spaniards were experiencing a low standard of living and also facing the prospect of ining in Cuba. On returning home many of these rich men enjoyed making ostentatious displays of their success in the form of magnificent houses and estates. They employed the very best architects and decorators of the time and no expense was spared in making a show of their power and wealth. These colonial style homes typically featured monumental facades, galleries, porticos, private chapels and ornate gates, many surrounded by exotic, lush gardens featuring palm trees, all of which were permanent reminders of from where their wealth originated.
